Centre For Climate Change Awareness

One of the greatest threats confronting human existence today is climate change. The world’s leading climate scientists say the earth’s climate is changing due to human activity. Nothing will be exempt from the negative impact of this phenomenon including health, food security and economic development. Further, climate change is expected to increase the frequency of extreme weather events such as droughts, floods and heat waves.

According to the International Panel on Climate Change’s Fifth Assessment Science Reportpublished in September 2013, there is 95 per cent certainty that human activity is the primary cause of global warming.Worldwide, the effects of global warming are being experienced with alarming frequency and devastating consequences.

However, it is the developing countries, particularly in Africa, who are bearing, and will continue to bear, the biggest burden from global warming. Therefore, we must seek to inform and mobilise all players including the citizenry, civil society, both public and private sectors to institute adaptation and mitigation measures at their level. Indeed, no activity, individual or organisationis insignificant inachieving a sustainable world for future generations.
